Nuclear Energy & Working in an International Organization
Featuring Nina Cromnier (NEA Head of Division RP-HANS)
In coordination with Toyama High School and the Super Science High School Program
An online lecture in coordination with Tokyo Metropolitan Toyama High School was conducted on November 8, 2024. Nina Cromnier from the Nuclear Energy Agency (NEA) talked about what the NEA is, and what it is like to work in an international organization. The NEA is an organization which belongs to the OECD (Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development), and its mission is to assist its 34 member countries around the world in maintaining and further developing, through international co-operation, the scientific, technological and legal bases required for a safe, environmentally sound and economical use of nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. Ms. Cromnier is Swedish, and works in France, speaking English. In addition to the NEA, Ms. Cromnier talked about her career, and explained what working means to her.
The lecture lasted for an hour, and the entire interaction was carried out only in English, including a Q&A session in which students from both high schools asked Ms. Cromnier some questions. Ms. Cromnier’s lecture was deeply interesting. What is more, the attitudes of the Toyama High School students, who have deep thoughts on nuclear energy issues or policy, were so inspiring. It can definitely be said that working with other high school students with the same interests means a lot to Tennoji students. Hopefully, more international online lecture of this kind can be held in coordination with other high schools in the future.
