1. From Osaka to Brisbane ~大阪からブリスベンへ~
During our flight to Brisbane, we had inflight meals twice; noodles and bread. It took 8-9 hours from Osaka to Brisbane so we got very tired. However, as soon as we arrived, we found it very hot and humid which was like summer in Japan. It made us a bit more excited about our stay.
2. From the airport to our sister school ~空港から姉妹校へ~
After immigration clearances at the airport, we divided ourselves into two groups and took taxis to Holland Park State High School, our sister school.
In the taxi, the driver asked us to pay, but we had to explain that our teacher in the other car would pay for both cars. What is more, our taxi was heading to Holland Park State Primary School, so we asked him to change the destination. We managed to get to school.
3. Teachers and students ~先生とバディ~
We soon had Aussie teachers’ great greetings and they kindly took us to a welcome party. First, we learned about school, including 4 mottos; learning, respect, kindness, and perseverance. All the teachers were very proud of the school.
Then we met our buddies and took some snacks and fruits together. I felt relaxed with my buddy because he was a really nice guy. He had so many friends at school that he introduced me to almost every student he saw. Thanks to him I could talk with Aussie students a lot.
To my surprise, many of them know a lot about Japan and they told me their experience when they visited Japan. One of them said that he had visited Dotonbori to see a Glico sign and enjoyed the local food. I was glad to know that Japan is popular even among foreign youths.

4. Classes at school ~授業に参加~
The first class I took was a math class. On that day we had a small test consisting of 15 questions. It was actually a piece of cake for me to solve all the questions because I had already learned them in Japan.
Between classes, my buddy gave me a sandwich his mom had made which was very tasty.
The second class was chemistry but the students were working on their own assignments so he and I moved to Japanese class. There were some interesting games using easy Japanese expressions for example 左右上下.
5. Host family ~ホストファミリーとのひと時~
We met our host family at 3:00pm on March 5, 2026. At first, we were so nervous. However, we are getting used to our new environment by communicating with our host family. We enjoyed things such as board games, eating snacks with our host family. Our group’s host family’s house is very big! We ate chicken curry rice for dinner. It was very delicious and spicy.
On the evening of March 6, 2026, my host father took us walking around. We enjoyed walking to new places and playing at the park. Everything was like scenes from the films. Fortunately, we saw three wild koalas! The koala’s droppings smelled like eucalyptus.
We ate hamburger steak for dinner. It was made from Aussie beef. It was the first experience for me to eat Aussie beef in Australia. The juicy taste touched the heart.
I am writing this article on the veranda. The wind is so comfortable that I am falling asleep.

6. Lone Pine Sanctuary visited on March 6 ~世界最大のコアラ保護区へ~
Today we visited Lone Pine Sanctuary. We fed colorful birds and kangaroos and saw baby water dragons. I was excited to see a kangaroo feeding milk to her baby.
We also watched interesting animal shows, including a raptor show where eagles and owls flew just above our heads. The wedge-tailed eagle was especially huge. I could even touch a koala, which was much softer than I expected. Finally, we saw a platypus swimming. It was very cute.
Lone Pine Sanctuary was a great place where I could see many unique Australian animals up close. I especially liked the water dragons. We could see them everywhere, so I would recommend this place for sightseeing.
